Hull Community Church is proud to be supporting the LGBT+ community in Hull and was involved in the 2019 Pride march through Hull city centre. Our unicorn photo booth stall was a great success.
We had some quite illustrious visitors to our photobooth – Lord Mayor Steve Wilson, MP Diana Johnson, the Police and many more! The atmosphere at Pride was beautiful, full of love and goodwill. Our church and community made 300 mini rainbow cushions to give away, as well as 1,000 rainbow cupcakes.
You might be wondering why a church got involved in Pride, as churches are not traditionally known for supporting the LGBT community. We have been on a journey as a church, and come to realise that being quietly affirming is simply not enough. We have to shout aloud our support and love for a group of people that have been marginalised and mistreated.
Our church is now registered for same-sex weddings, and the LGBT+ community are involved at all levels of our church and welcome on staff and leadership. If you would like to hear more about our journey, and how we moved from being a conservative evangelical church to an affirming and welcoming place for the LGBT+ community, then do email our church leader, Anne Dannerolle.
